What is Blended Learning Methodology?

SCOPe courses are designed to offer the most accessible and flexible pathway for advancing your career in prosthetics and orthotics.

The curriculum combines innovative learning methods that support participants in both developing new skills and strengthening existing competencies—empowering practitioners to better serve the needs of their communities.

With SCOPe, knowledge and skills are gained step by step through short, specialized courses that can be completed individually while participants continue their daily professional work.

Each participant receives secure credentials to access Human Study’s web-based learning platform, where they take part in structured online activities.

The online learning phase typically lasts 5 to 8 weeks (depending on the subject) and includes interactive theoretical content, video materials, and weekly live lectures with discussions. Participants also benefit from tools such as forums, direct messaging, and a glossary to support collaborative learning.

This phase is designed with flexibility in mind: participants can organize their studies at their own pace to balance personal and professional responsibilities. On average, no more than 6 hours per week are required.

Through Human Study’s proprietary virtual classroom, participants engage with multimedia resources tailored to their selected course. Theoretical content commonly covers:

  • Anatomy & Physiology

  • Pathology

  • Biomechanics

  • Professional Practice

  • Material Science

After completing the online phase, participants advance to an on-site clinical workshop, where they put theory into practice through supervised, hands-on training.

The ultimate goal of the clinical hands-on training is for each participant to manufacture an individual device (according to the subject area) under the close supervision of expert trainers.

Instruction is delivered through step-by-step demonstrations that cover the full treatment process—from patient intake and anamnesis through device fabrication, finishing, fitting, adjustment, and final testing. Participants are encouraged to reproduce each demonstrated technique immediately, ensuring they practice and refine every stage of the process under expert guidance.

Workshops are adapted to the requirements of each course and are led by renowned prosthetics and orthotics specialists. The on-site training takes place at a centralized local P&O facility, typically lasting 5 to 9 days, where Human Study experts provide intensive, detailed instruction and support.

After completing the clinical workshop, participants return to their own facilities to apply the techniques with patients. They then prepare and present comprehensive case studies to the trainer team through online sessions, consolidating their learning and demonstrating their competency.

In the follow-up phase, participants prepare and present up to three (3) clinical case studies based on the techniques learned during the on-site workshop. These cases are shared online with the trainer team and peers, fostering collaborative review and professional exchange.

This phase lasts three months, during which participants continue to apply their new skills in their home clinical settings. They are encouraged to consult with the trainer team for guidance and clarification, ensuring that lessons from the workshop are effectively transferred into daily practice.

Case studies are presented using a standardized PowerPoint template provided by the course. Reviews and discussions take place in live online sessions, where participants analyze procedures, outcomes, and challenges together. Guided by the trainer as moderator, this process provides constructive feedback, strengthens clinical decision-making, and deepens professional learning.

SCOPe is tailored for practicing prosthetists and orthotists who wish to expand their expertise with advanced, up-to-date knowledge and clinical skills. The program is designed not only to strengthen individual performance but, above all, to improve the quality of care and outcomes for the patients they serve.

If you are relatively new to the prosthetics and orthotics field, our basic courses provide the right foundation.

If you already hold a formal P&O qualification, our advanced courses will deepen your knowledge, broaden your competencies, and allow you to expand your scope of practice.

Training candidate requirements:

  • Currently employed at a clinic or workshop as prosthetist and/or orthotist with a minimum of 1 year of professional clinical experience in prosthetics and/or orthotics

  • Access to a computer with a stable internet connection

  • Solid command of English with professional/technical working proficiency (bi-lingual delivery may be possible upon early request)

At the conclusion of each course, participants are offered the opportunity to sit for a final examination.

Successful completion requires the mandatory presentation of at least one (1) clinical case study during the online follow-up phase, as well as a passing grade on the final theoretical exam. Meeting these requirements leads to the award of a Human Study Certificate of Achievement, confirming that all course obligations have been satisfactorily fulfilled.

To support participants in meeting professional development standards, Human Study can also apply in advance to the relevant national Certification Board to secure recognition of the course for continuing education credits.

Each SCOPe course is tailored to its specific subject area, and tuition is calculated individually.

The course fee reflects factors such as the length of the e-learning phase, the duration of the on-site clinical workshop, and the number of participants. This ensures that each program is structured to provide the best possible learning experience.
